We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data - legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. Government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right.
Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time tm). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures. We are legion. And we're trying really hard not to forget. from. It's not that it doesn't work on server, it's just that the installer doesn't work on server. If you install it manually then everything works. The following worked for me: First you need a supported OS to grab the files from (I did this with a different machine running win 10). Add a deny 'Delete file' permission to the%temp% folder for everyone (not 100% sure if this is necessary). Just to make sure the setup doesn't remove its files Run the installer and click install, but don't close the window Look in the%temp% folder for the cabinet files that the setup creates, there should be 3. For me, these were named: GoogleDFSSetup101676.cab GoogleDFSSetup131676.cab GoogleDFSSetup1316761.cab Copy these 3 files onto the server you want to install on and extract them (I used 7zip). Not sure if necessary, but i also grabbed an export of the registry entries that the setup created in HKLM SOFTWARE Google DriveFS On the server machine: Inside the folder named GoogleDFSSetup1316761.cab i found the driver, 3 files named: googledrivefs2285.cat googledrivefs2285.inf googledrivefs2285.sys Right click the.inf file and press install.
The folder named GoogleDFSSetup101676 had the actual program exe and a bunch of other DLL's and files. I copied all of these into c: program files google driveFS One of the dll's needed to be registered. (drivefsext.dll) I did this with (in command prompt): regsvr32 'c: program files driveFS drivefsext.dll' Lastly i Imported the registry keys i had exported earlier. Once all this was done, after a reboot i opened the GoogleDriveFS.exe inside program files, and everything worked. No love for me and FYI you have a typo on the dll's needed to be registered setup. You are missing 'google' on the path so registration fails, if you add google to the path it registers fine c: program files google driveFS drivefsext.dll I can get the program to start but I had to change the file structure to make that work.
You said you dumped the program.exe and dlls to the driveFS folder. I had to put them in the 25.157.165.2150 folder to work like it is setup in programs files on my win10 machine. File Stream starts however when it tries to connect I get an error 'Drive File Stream encountered a problem and has stopped'. I can only close the program. I tried running in compatibility mode, as administrator, added the program to the firewall and even shut off the firewall.
Still same error message, any ideas are welcome, thanks for all the effort to try and make this work! Tested last night on Windows Server 2012 R2, and confirmed working.
